It all started with a purple coat…

One cold Florida morning, a teacher called her sister for a favor.   She told her that there was student who couldn’t go outside for gym class because she didn’t have a jacket. Her sister immediately jumped in the car and bought a purple coat in just the right size.  When she dropped off the coat she was overwhelmed by the deep gratitude of this little girl, who looked up at with her smiling big brown eyes and offered a huge hug (and always wore her coat)!

It was this moment which led to the start of Clothes to Kids, an organization whose mission is to provide new and quality used clothing to low-income or in crisis school-age children, free of charge.  Clothes To Kids envisions a community in which every school-age child has quality clothing so that he or she may attend school with the confidence and self-esteem needed to achieve academic success.

    How to Help:

    Monetary donation: http://www.clothestokids.org:

$50 will provide a one wardrobe for a child, a full week’s worth of clothes.  With the help of clothing donations and monetary donations, over 11,000 wardrobes were distributed in 2020!

    Clothing donations:

Donate new or gently used kids clothes (4-16), adult size clothes (think pre-teen and teens), shoes (children’s size 9 to adult), bras, belts, purses, hats, jewelry, backpacks, NEW socks and underwear

(Here’s a fun fact:  If clothing donations are not in suitable condition, the organization works with a textile recycler so the clothes stay out of the landfill.  All proceeds from recycling goes towards the purchase of new socks and underwear!)

There are 3 locations in the Tampa Bay area (Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa) as well as in Denver, Haywood County, NC, Rhode Island, and Fairfield County, CT.
